“It’s a day to celebrate the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the world.” —

World Humanitarian Day is held on the 19th of August each year, coinciding with the anniversary of the bombing at the UN Headquarters in Baghdad in 2003 which left 22 aid workers dead. Each year on this day, we recognize humanitarian efforts around the world and the people who place themselves in the face of danger to support the lives of others.

This year, the UN and its humanitarian partners invite everyone to be Messengers of Humanity by dedicating their social media feeds to the World Humanitarian Day. In order to join in on the social movement, simply share stories of humanitarian efforts around the world on your social feeds, spreading the word and making people more aware of these selfless acts that have a huge impact on the world at large.

“In a world that is ever more digitally connected, each of us has the power and responsibility to inspire our fellow human beings to act to help others and create a more humane world.” — Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

Join in the action by sharing meaningful stories of humanitarians using the hashtag #SHAREHUMANITY.
