Latin America has long been something of a conundrum for international financial services firms and insurers. The past couple of decades have witnessed a multitude of companies enter the market – only to pull out again for various reasons.
It remains attractive for both European and American companies, which view the region as a big opportunity. But they need to appreciate and respect that it takes more than just learning Spanish and/or Portuguese to succeed.
